When the OPPO N3 was announced, the display was downsized to a 5.5 incher from its initial 5.9″ size on the previous N1. To fill the phablet gap in their current offering, OPPO has announced its U3 which comes with a 5.9″ Full HD display that occupies 75% of its front.
Powering the device is a 64-bit MT6752 MediaTek 1.7GHz Octa-Core processor with 2GB of RAM and there’s also 16GB of storage which can be expanded with microSD. For the camera, unfortunately it doesn’t carry the anticipated 4X Optical Zoom as rumoured earlier on. Instead it settles for a 13MP Sony IMX214 camera, while the front gets a 5MP shooter that’s assisted by a soft illuminated flash. Keeping the device running is a 3,000mAh capacity battery.
Like its OPPO Find 7, the U3 also supports VOOC rapid charge and its 13MP camera is able to produce 50MP photos via PureImage 2.0+ resampling. It also supports dual-SIM (micro-SIM + Nano-SIM) and 4G LTE with both in standby. Overall it is 8mm thick and it weighs 195g which is quite heavy. Out of the box, it runs on its proprietary Color OS 2.0.1 that’s still based on Android 4.4.4 KitKat. So far there’s no word of its pricing and its international availability.
