Samsung Galaxy S5 receives Lollipop Update in Malaysia

Samsung is now rolling out its latest Android 5.0 Lollipop update for Galaxy S5 users in Malaysia. This brings the latest usability and performance updates along with its updated TouchWiz UI. The new Lollipop treat was released starting in Poland last month and finally it has arrived in our region.

At time of writing, the update isn’t available through OTA (Over The Air), so you’ll need to download it on a desktop using Samsung Kies 3, which you can download here. After Kies has been installed, just plug in your Galaxy S5 and it should prompt that a new software version is now available (PDA NL3 / CSC: NL3 / Phone: NL1). Take note that you’ll need about 3GB of free space and a full battery charge before you can proceed with the update.

According to the notes, opening apps for the first time after the upgrade may appear to be sluggish as there’s an initial optimisation process for each app. They have also mentioned that some apps installed previously would need to be updated to the latest version for full Lollipop compatibility. In addition, Samsung also highlights that the device available memory would be reduced by at least 950MB.

We would also recommend users to perform a back up of your essential files, photos and videos just in case things go wrong. Thanks @LienWee for the heads up!
