Alcatel says it makes one of the best selfie phones in the world

Alcatel claims it’s latest smartphone — the OneTouch Flash — that will be available in Malaysia soon, is “one of the world’s best selfie smartphones” that’s “perfect for selfie lovers”. It’s a big claim but with just a 5MP front camera we’re not sure how the Flash is better than other selfie phones like the HTC Desire Eye (13MP front camera with dual-tone flash and HDR), the Oppo N3 (16 MP auto-swivel, Schneider Kreuznach certified camera) and almost all other top-end smartphones from China has front camera that’s more than 5MP.

Anyway, let’s go into the details. The OneTouch Flash features a 5.5-inch 720p display with an 1.4 GHz Octa-Core processor, a 3,200mAh battery, Android 4.4.2 KitKat, a 13MP rear camera and a 5MP front facing camera.

Aside from the large 3,200mAh, there’s really not much to talk about the OneTouch Flash. In terms of specs, the device is in the same class as the Redmi Note 4G (RM589), but when you consider the asking — RM699 with flip cover and free one-time screen replacement within 12 months — and the lack of 4G support, the OneTouch Flash is looking less and less interesting.

So is the Alcatel OneTouch Flash one of the best selfies phones in the world? Maybe, we can’t say for sure until we try one for ourselves. But if your looking for a good value for money phone that can do most things well, you might want to look elsewhere.

If you’re still interested, the OneTouch Flash goes on sale tomorrow (December 12, 2014) in Peninsular Malaysia while those in Sabah and Sarawak will have to wait a little later December 15, 2014). Retail price is RMM699 for the phone with flip cover and value added Screen Warranty Care + which provides a free one-time screen replacement in the first 12 months. Also, if you’re the first 1,000 buyer, you’ll get a free selfie stick. Naturally. And, 50% off Hydraskins covers for the OneTouch Flash when you use the “BEaFlasher” redemption code (promotion ends March 31, 2015.)

And that’s pretty much it. Tell us what you think about the Alcatel OneTouch Flash.
