Nokia introduces a compact Android tablet called the N1

Nokia the smart phone brand as we know it has come to an end after its acquisition by Microsoft. Now they have started a new chapter by introducing the Nokia N1, its first Android tablet that runs on the latest Android 5.0 Lollipop. Running on top is its Z Launcher that’s fairly easy to use.

The N1 features a 7.9″ IPS display that does 2048×1536 resolution, which is similar to the iPad mini 2 and Xiaomi Mi Pad. To protect it form unintentional abuses, the front is toughen with Gorilla Glass 3. The exterior uses a one piece aluminium design which comes in either Natural Aluminum or Lava Gray colours. It does resembles closely with the iPad mini and it is slightly thinner at 6.9mm.

Powering the device is Intel’s 64-bit 2.3GHz Atom Z3580 processor that’s accompanied with 2GB of RAM, which is the same powerhouse as ASUS Memo Pad 8. Storage wise it gets 32GB capacity but it is non-expandable.

The Nokia N1 is WiFi only, supporting dual WiFi channels in 802.11a/b/g/n/ac and it also comes with Bluetooth 4.0. Weighing 318 grams, it is juiced up with a 5,300mAh capacity battery. The bottom features a pair of stereo speakers and like other Android devices, it connects and charge using micro USB but it uses a Type C design that’s reversible.

Nokia hasn’t been particularly successful with Android and its Nokia X project was a flop in the face of better Android smart phones at competitive prices. With Nokia embarking on its own, the N1 might stand a chance as it runs the latest OS along with a promising new launcher. The Nokia N1 will be sold starting in China at US$249 (about RM836) and this potentially can give the Mi Pad a run for its money.
