By the numbers: Nexus 6 compared against other flagship smart phones

Google has officially revealed the Nexus 6, a new 6″ phablet that will replace the current Nexus 5. In terms of software, it runs on the very latest Android 5.0 Lollipop.

The Nexus 6 ticks all the right boxes if you’re looking for a high-spec device. The front gets a 5.96″ Quad HD AMOLED display that’s accompanied with a pair of front stereo speakers. Underneath it gets a mighty 2.7GHz Quad-Core Snapdragon 805 processor with 3GB RAM. There’s an option for 32GB or 64GB of storage which unfortunately is non-expandable.

For taking pictures, you’ll be delighted to know that it gets a 13MP f/2.0 shooter that comes with Optical Image Stabiliser while selfie shots are handled by a 2MP front unit. Keeping the Nexus 6 running for its rated 24 hours of usage is a 3,220mAh capacity battery.

If you’re wondering how does it stack up with today’s flagship models including the Galaxy Note 4, iPhone 6 Plus, Honor 6 and the Sony Xperia Z3, check out our comparison table after the break.

In the comparison, the Nexus 6 stands out in the processor department, being the only contender other than the Galaxy Note 4 (N910S Snapdragon variant) to have the latest Snapdragon 805 SoC along with 3GB of RAM. With flagships pushing higher resolution screens, the Nexus 6 has also joined the Quad HD bandwagon on a 5.96″ AMOLED display which puts in on par with the monstrous Lenovo Vibe Z2 Pro. Pixel density wise, it is definitely lower than the Oppo Find 7 and Galaxy Note 4 but at 493 pixels per inch, it is still better than any Full HD phones that’s available right now.

Meanwhile, its camera with Optical Image Stabiliser promises reduced blur due to shaking that’s also featured on the iPhone 6 Plus, Galaxy Note 4 and LG G3. The battery surprisingly is similar with the Galaxy Note 4 at 3,220mAh and it too has a fast charging feature that claims to give 6 hours of use from 15 minutes of charging.

They didn’t mention any battery percentage levels but the Nexus 6 battery claims to provide 24 hours of usage which could roughly be 25% charge in 15 minutes, which is comparable with Galaxy Note 4’s 50% charge in 30 minutes claim. So far, the OPPO Find 7’s VOOC Charger is still the fastest with a 75% charge in just 30 minutes.

Dimension wise, the Nexus 6 is quite a bulky device with a thickness of 10.1mm. In this day and age, it is quite hard to find a flagship device going beyond the 10mm level. As comparison, the Huawei Ascend Mate 7 that comes with a 6″ screen is only 7.9mm thick and it is a gram heavier than the Nexus 6 (Nexus 6: 184g, Ascend Mate 7: 185g) but yet it manages to pack a huge 4,100mAh capacity battery. Meanwhile the Note 4 weighs 176g and has a thickness of 8.5mm.
