Android 5.0 Lollipop now official with a phablet, tablet and TV player

Android L is now officially known as Android 5.0 Lollipop. This marks the next release of Google’s platform which covers from smart watches to smart phones, tablets and onto the big screen. Regardless of what Android device from different brands you’re on, the new update promises better continuity, making it easier to pick up from where you left off. So this explains its latest theme, be together, not the same.

Some of the major changes including its new Material Design, that’s more fluid regardless of what screen you’re on. In terms of performance, Android is switching its runtime from Dalvik to ART which promises better performance that can scale up with the latest multi-core processors.

UPDATE: Check out the Nexus 6 and Nexus 9.

In conjunction with the latest OS, Google has announced 3 new devices – Nexus 6, Nexus 9 and a Nexus Player. The Nexus 6 is their 6″ phablet with a Quad HD display that’s developed by Motorola. Next is the Nexus 9 which has been long rumoured with a 8.9″ IPS display in a metallic body by HTC.

Last but not least is a Nexus Player that’s developed together with ASUS. Unlike the short-lived Nexus Q introduced a few years ago, the new player not only streams media but it also acts as an Android gaming device that connects to your HDTV. There’s a remote and a wireless game controller included with the kit. The Nexus 9 and Nexus Player will be open for pre-order in the US starting tomorrow, 17th October while the Nexus 6 pre-orders shall commence at the end of this month. All 3 devices will be available in the month of November.

Android 5.0 will be released to Nexus 4, 5, 7, 10 and Google Play edition devices in the next few weeks. You can expect the latest Moto E, G and X to follow shortly as well.
