Meizu’s MX4 to go Pro with a larger 5.4″ Quad HD screen

Just only last month, phone maker Meizu had released their MX4 smartphone to compete with the current flagship segment, and they have been on a warpath ever since. It appears that they have been working on a more powerful model of the MX4, and it will be called the Meizu MX4 Pro. Sources point out that it may be officially launch in October 28 but now it looks like it has been delayed until November.

The difference between the two devices are quite wide. The MX4 Pro will offer a similar display size as the MX4 at 5.4” but it has a higher resolution of 2560×1536, where the MX4 only has 1920×1152. One notable feature not seen on the MX4 will be the embedded fingerprint scanner on the home button, bringing the unlock feature as seen on the iPhone 5S and Galaxy S5. As for performance, the MX4 Pro outruns the MX4, thanks to its powerful Exynos 5430 octa-core processor that’s found on the Galaxy Alpha and 3GB of RAM. As comparison, the MX4 runs on Mediatek’s MT6595 octa-core processor with just 2GB of RAM. Camera wise, the MX4 Pro might have the same 20.7-megapixel camera by Sony that’s also found on the MX4. As for the front camera, it is said to feature a 13-megapixel shooter, which is a huge upgrade over the MX4’s 2-megapixel front-facing camera.

The MX4 Pro may come with Android KitKat that’s skinned under Flyme 4.0 UI, but there has been rumours about the MX4 Pro running on Ubuntu Touch. The device may be going for CNY 2,499 (Roughly RM1300), and will be made available via their website, with international shipping. Although Meizu is not officially present in Malaysia, we can always count on our grey importers to offer such devices in Malaysia. At the moment, retailer IPMart is now accepting pre-orders for the MX4 starting at RM1,299.
