UPDATE: Google Street View is now available in Sabah and Sarawak.
It took more than a year and Google has finally rolled out its full street view experience in Malaysia. Previously Google had offered street view at selected tourist hotspots in the country and now it has expanded to include views taken from most major roads and highways.
It is accessible now on Google Maps for both desktop and mobile version. For Desktop, just drag the orange man from the bottom right and drop them on the desired available location. In the mobile app, you need to tap and hold on the map, then click on the road name at the bottom to bring up Street View.
As you can see, the Google Maps Street View for Malaysia now covers most towns and cities in Peninsular Malaysia. Unfortunately Street View isn’t available for Sabah and Sarawak at the moment.
So if you’re making a trip to a new place, you can familiarise your destination by checking out Street View first. It is also a fun way to rediscover new places or to virtually walk down memory lane at the places you’ve been before, like your old house or past neighbourhoods.
Since this is new, it would be interesting to see if anyone manages to photobomb the view as the Google Maps vehicle is passing by. After all, it is not hard to spot a car with a gigantic camera on the roof.
