While most of the mainstream players are showcasing its flagship smart phones at IFA 2014, Lenovo has turned its attention to the the mid-range segment. They have just announced the Vibe X2 and Vibe Z2 that boast premium and stylish design, that aims to stand out in the competitive mid-tier space.
Instead of sticking to the usual hardware with a different exterior, both the Vibe X2 and Vibe Z2 uses new processors including MediaTek’s new True Octa-core processor with 4G LTE and Qualcomm’s Quad-Core Snapdragon 410 64-bit processor.
Starting with the Vibe X2, this mid-range smart phone stands out with its unique 3-colour layered design that’s visible throughout the sides of the phone. On the exterior, this is quite a sleek at only 7.27mm thick and it weighs just 120 grams.
Underneath, it runs on MediaTek’s MT6595 processor offering True 8 Cores processing clocked at 2.0GHz. It is mated to 2GB of RAM and comes with 32GB of non-expandable storage.
Over at the front, the Vibe X2 gets a 5″ Full HD display that pushes a density of 440ppi and selfies are handled by its 5MP shooter. For normal shots, it packs a 13MP camera with assisted LED flash. Being a slim device, the Vibe X2 packs a rather little 2,300mAh capacity battery but there’s a Battery Xtension feature which helps to extend the battery life by 75%. Faster 4G LTE also comes as standard.
The Vibe X2’s “kuih lapis” colours include White, Gold, Red and Dark Grey. For Asia Pacific, it will be available with Dual-SIM while the rest of the world gets a Single SIM variant. Out of the box, it runs on the latest Android 4.4 KitKat with their latest Vibe UI 2.0.
The Vibe Z2 is essentially the “mini” version of its high-end Vibe Z2 Pro phablet, in a smaller 5.5″ package. It also uses a premium brushed metal unibody design, which feels much more solid than the current Vibe Z.
Since this is a mid-range offering, the 5.5″ display pushes a respectable 1280×720 pixels resolution but underneath, it is powered by Qualcomm’s new 64-bit Snapdragon 410 processor with Quad-Cores running at 1.2GHz. There’s 2GB of RAM and 32GB of on-board storage which isn’t expandable.
For taking photos, the Vibe Z2 packs a 13MP camera (Sony Sensor) with twin LED flash and it even has Optical Image Stabilisation as well. Lenovo hasn’t forgotten about the Selfies too and they have packed a 8MP front facing fixed focus camera as well. Connectivity won’t be an issue as it also supports 4G LTE including our local Band 3 (1800MHz) and 7 (2600MHz). According to their spec-sheet, it also comes with dual-SIM support too.
Being a 5.5-incher, the Vibe Z2 comes with a decent 3,000mAh battery which should give decent battery life with Qualcomm’s frugal Snapdragon processors. Overall it is 7.8mm thick and weighs 158g. As comparison, the plastic based Lenovo Vibe Z K910 is lighter at 147 grams but it is slightly thicker at 7.9mm.
The Lenovo Vibe Z2 will be available in a choice of 3 colours – White, Titanium and Gold. And out of the box, it runs on the latest Android 4.4 KitKat. So far there’s no word of its commercial availability but we are likely to see this coming to our shores towards the end of this year.
