Today Xiaomi celebrates its 4th birthday and they are currently running an open sale on their online store with special discounts on its accessories. As mentioned during their Mi 4 announcement, today they are also introducing its next iteration of MIUI.
In case you didn’t know, MIUI is their custom Android operating system which Xiaomi claims to have over 70 million active MIUI users worldwide. Now in version 6, the latest MIUI which is based on Android 4.4 KitKat offers a fresh new interface which mimics the current trend of flat UI design.
According to Xiaomi, the new MIUI 6 focuses on putting your content upfront while maintaining a visually pleasing experience that’s still easy to use. When we tried out the Mi 3 in its current MIUI 5, we liked how it keeps the flow simple and intuitive to use but yet offers fine tweaks which a power user would appreciate.
Apart from having a flatter icon designs and skinny fonts, they’ve also made some functional changes as well. This includes a newer notifications which can be sorted by priority levels and a smarter calendar which dynamically pulls content and holiday dates based on your interest. For its MiCloud online storage, they have also enhanced it to make photo sharing across family and friends easier on any device.
Starting from today, MIUI 6 will be open to 1,000 beta users and they are giving 100 Malaysians the chance to be among the first to try it out. Next week, they are opening it up to another 10,000 Beta testers as well and the developer build version is expected to be released early next month. For the rest of the public, they are targeting for October release. Xiaomi hasn’t shared its MIUI 6 supported devices yet but it is likely that both Mi 4 and Mi 3 flagship models will be the first to receive it.
