Access All Your Media through One Device with the New WD TV – Personal Edition

Western Digital has launched a new Wi-Fi enabled media player, the WD TV – Personal Edition priced at RM359. With support for numerous popular formats, the WD TV can play video and music, and displays photos from any computers, storage devices and also cameras and camcorders that are connected through a home network. And if your mobile device is Miracast enabled, the WD TV can wirelessly share its screen onto your TV in 1080p full HD.

“Consumers have increasingly large libraries of disparate personal content types on a variety of storage devices, from portable USB to network attached storage and personal computers,” explains Jim Welsh, executive vice president, WD Content Solutions Business and worldwide sales. “WD’s ecosystem of apps and media players ensures that viewing that content is seamless on all screens, from mobile devices to the HDTV. WD TV personalizes the entertainment experience, providing the easiest way for consumers to playback all of their personal videos, photos and music.”

Using included apps, the WD TV lets users stream online content from YouTube, Spotify, and Facebook; and—for those of you who indulge in VPN gymnastics—Hulu Plus, VUDU, SlingPlayer, and Pandora, too.

All this can be controlled using the WD TV’s user interface that allows users to customise their home page with shortcuts to frequently accessed network folders and favourite apps. Preferred apps can be configured to auto-run at startup. Additionally, the free WD TV Remote app available on iOS and Android turns your mobile device into a remote control.

So how do you consume media? Do you keep things separate; movies on the big screens, streaming videos on mobile, and music through ear buds; or do you congregate everything into a smorgasbord of content to be feasted on through all channels? Let us know in the comments.
