Microsoft Devices is trying to push Windows Phone to the masses with its new Lumia 530. Available in either single-SIM and Dual-SIM variant, the Lumia 530 is priced from €85 (about RM385) before tax, making it its most affordable Lumia yet. Despite its low price tag, it runs on the latest Windows Phone 8.1 that offers the latest features such as Action Centre and WordFlow Keyboard.
At first glance, it does look like a refreshed model of the Lumia 525 as the Lumia 530 comes with a similar sized 4″ display. Instead of using IPS panel, it settles for a standard LCD screen that displays a FWVGA resolution of 854 x 480. Like the Lumia 630, it uses on-screen buttons instead of capacitive ones at the front.
Powering the device is a 1.2GHz Quad-Core Snapdragon 200 processor that’s mated to 512MB of RAM and on-board it comes with 4GB of expandable storage. On top of its free 15GB cloud storage, the Lumia 530 has an expandable microSD slot which support cards up to 128GB.
At the back, it gets a basic 5MP fixed focus camera without LED flash. Don’t expect anything fancy from this camera as it has a minimum focus range of 60cm and records videos at 480p resolution. With a 1,430mAh battery on-board, the Lumia 530 is 11.7mm thick and weighs 129 grams. It is available with a choice of Bright green, bright orange, white and dark grey colours.
Just recently Microsoft Devices had pulled the plug on its Android based Nokia X line up which originally aims to fill the gap between its entry level Asha and Windows Phone devices. Looks like the transition has begun as the Lumia 530 marks Windows Phone’s entry in the competitive low price segment.
