Xiaomi introduces the Mi Band, its first wearable device

During the Mi 4 announcement, Xiaomi’s CEO Lei Jun did a surprise “one more thing” by introducing the Mi Band. Like the name suggests, it is a fitness and sleep tracker and comes with a variety of colours.

Designed to be worn at all times in any situation, the Mi Band gets your usual IP67 water and dust resistance. Interestingly it boasts an ultra long 30 day standby time from its 45mAh battery. This is partly due to its Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity and it is supported on its Xiaomi Mi 3 and Mi 4 running on the latest MIUI with Android 4.4.

Apart from tracking your day to day activities, the Mi Band also functions as a vibrating alarm and it also vibrates when you have incoming notifications on your phone. Since it is paired with your Mi device, it can unlock your smart phone without requiring a passcode when your band is within range. This is similar with Personal Unlocking which was previewed during Google I/O with an Android Wear device.

What’s more amazing is the price of just 79 Yuan, which is about RM40 in our local currency. So far there’s no mention when it will be released internationally but it suddenly makes other fitness bands in the market look severely overpriced. For more information, you can head over to Xiaomi’s Mi Band product page.
