Celcom introduces First One Plan. Claims this is the right ONE for you with more internet

UPDATE: Celcom has updated its FAQ.

Recently Maxis has gotten quite an attention with its new MaxisOne Plan that offers limitless talk and SMS for a fixed monthly fee. The proposition of a worry-free usage without the need of checking phone bills is quite interesting but the only complaint is its low monthly internet quota and costly data upgrades.

Today Celcom has announced its First One Plan which claims to be the right plan for you with a generous serving of mobile internet. They have also cheekily imply that an internet plan with very little internet, is the wrong one for you. It is pretty obvious that Celcom is taking a jab at the MaxisOne Plan. If you’re not convinced, it is even mentioned under its FAQ that the campaign is to counter attack the new data plan that Maxis has recently launched.

Like its rival, the Celcom First One Plan comes in 2 choices. The 3GB plan costs RM68/month while its 5GB option is offered at RM88/month. For occasional conversations, both plans come bundled with 60 minutes of calls and 60 SMS per month. Additional usage is on the high side at 20 sen/min for calls and 20 sen per SMS for First One Plan 3GB while its 5GB plan is slightly cheaper at 15 sen/minute of calls and per SMS.

For those relying on internet excessively, topping up additional internet quota is quite reasonable as well at RM15 per GB or RM50 for 5GB. If the plan offering looks familiar, they are actually renamed from its former Celcom First mAdvance Plus and Celcom First mPro Plus. As an added bonus, all new subscriptions will get 2 KAX collectibles and 100 Free movies on its Escape service.

So is this truly better than MaxisOne? The reality is that there’s no single plan that would suit everyone. If you make a lot of calls and SMS on a daily basis, the MaxisOne Plan is still an affordable proposition especially if you rake more than RM100 a month on calls and SMS. For those who use a lot of data and hardly make much phone calls, the Celcom First One is a good alternative. If you’re looking for an even more affordable data-centric postpaid plan, the Maxis SurfMore 50 is worth considering with 2GB of monthly data at just RM50/month. And if you need more, their SurfMore 75 offers 5GB of data for just RM75/month.
