The galaxy is so vast and so is the number of tablets being offered by Samsung right now that it is hard to tell them apart. Don’t believe us? Try telling the 3 devices above apart. The first device is the Galaxy Tab 4 8.0 followed by the Galaxy TabPro 8.4 and the latest Galaxy Tab S 8.5. If you lose count, there are total of 9 Android tablets from 7.0″ to 12.2″ that’s being offered by Samsung and that’s excluding other non-mainstream models like the budget Galaxy Tab 3 Lite and Galaxy Tab Kids.
For your easy reference, check out our comparison table of the 4 Galaxy range after the break.
The newly announced Galaxy Tab S stands out being the only tablet available right now with a Super AMOLED display. This promises better colour production, contrast and power consumption compared to standard LCD displays. The last time Samsung used AMOLED on its tablet was the Galaxy Tab 7.7 which is a premium device that lets you make phone calls. That was 2 years ago and its 7.7″ Super AMOLED Plus display was doing 1280×800 pixels resolution. It was one of the slimmest during that time at just 7.89mm.
If you compare this with the Galaxy TabPro/NotePro series, the underpinning of the Galaxy Tab S is very much the same but Samsung has given it a stricter diet which results a thinner 6.6mm side profile. The Tab S 10.5 is Samsung’s thinnest and lightest full sized tablet but it isn’t as thin as Sony Xperia Z2’s wafer thin 6.4mm thickness and weighs just 426g for the WiFi version. New on the Galaxy Tab S is a fingerprint scanner at the front which not only allows you quicker secured access but it can be programmed to open up separate private modes with maximum support up to 8 users.
The Galaxy Tab S will be coming to Malaysia and its 10.5″ version with 4G LTE was spotted in SIRIM’s database recently. In the US, the Tab S 10.5″ WiFi version is priced at US$499 (about RM1,599) while the 8.4″ at US$399 (about RM1,279).
