Owners of the first generation Samsung Galaxy Gear smart watch are getting a new software update which overhauls the entire system from Android to Tizen OS. It is updated through Kies and carries the software version number 2.2.0. Since this is a major upgrade, the Galaxy Gear smart watch contents will be wiped clean. Do take note that you would lose your 3rd party Android based smart watch apps as the it will now run on Tizen OS.
The user experience is pretty much the same as before and it is reported that the Galaxy Gear performs better with longer battery life with Tizen. In addition, the Galaxy Gear now is also able to work as a standard alone music player just like the latest Gear 2 smart watch. If you can’t update this through Kies, you have the option of updating manually through SamMobile by downloading the SM-V700 firmware.
