Samsung Galaxy S5 is officially available in Malaysia


Today the Samsung Galaxy S5 is officially available in Malaysia along with the rest of world. The new flagship device is priced at RM2,399 and accompanying it is the Gear 2 and Gear Fit smart watches that are priced at RM899 and RM599 respectively. Samsung Malaysia together with their 3 partner telcos – Celcom, DiGi and Maxis had organised on-ground sales events at 5 locations covering Klang Valley and Penang.

We were at Sunway Pyramid this morning where Celcom had surprised its first customer with a Free Galaxy S5 and Galaxy Tab 3 Lite. Abdul Hamid bin Husin who was first in line had started queuing since 6.30AM this morning. Celcom also offered a Purchase with Purchase promo where those who have signed up will get to purchase a Galaxy Y Neo or Galaxy Tab 3 Lite for just RM55. The Galaxy S5 from Celcom is offered from as low RM988 with their Celcom First postpaid plans.

At each venue, Samsung is thrown in additional surprise worth RM200 to lucky 55 customers. At the Maxis event in KLCC, they had given Galaxy S5 covers worth RM200 to 55 customers. In other locations including Celcom and DiGi, they gave out RM200 worth of vouchers which can be used to rebate their Galaxy S5 purchase.

To recap on the specs, the Galaxy S5 features a larger 5.1″ Full HD AMOLED and runs on the latest 2.5GHz Quad-Core Snapdragon 801 processor with 2GB of RAM. It gets 16GB of storage, microSD expansion slot up to 128GB, a new 16MP camera that shoots 4K videos and a larger 2,800mAh capacity battery. The new Galaxy S5 comes with a perforated back cover which is nicer and the device is now water and dust resistant with IP67 rating. New on the Galaxy S5 is a fingerprint scanner embedded on the home button and a heart rate sensor located at the back of the device.
