Qualcomm announces new Snapdragon 810 and 808 processors. 64-bit processing with Cat 6 4G LTE support

Qualcomm has announced new 2 additions to its Snapdragon 800 series with its Snapdragon 810 and Snapdragon 808 processors. The two new processors are designed for next generation high-end smart phone models with 64-bit capability and support for an even faster Cat 6 4G LTE. This allows ultra-fast 4G LTE speeds up to 300Mbps download like the current fastest MiFi device. As you would expect on a high-end processor, both are capable of supporting imaging and playback of Ultra HD content.

The Snapdragon 810 is their highest offering with 8 cores that consists of 4x Cortex-A57 and 4x Cortex-A53 cores. These new cores replace the existing Cortex-A15 and A7 respectively which offers better performance with more efficient power consumption. It is paired with a newer Adreno 430 GPU which is reportedly 40% faster than the current Adreno 330 that’s found in current Snapdragon 800/801 processors.

Meanwhile, the Snapdragon 808 processor is a Hexa-Core solution that is made of 2X Cortex-A57 and 4X Cortex-A53 cores. It uses a Adreno 418 GPU which is a slight notch below the Adreno 420 that’s found on the Snapdragon 805. Expect these two processors to appear on flagship smartphones in early 2015 as Qualcomm will be initiating its sampling in the second half of this year.

It looks like Qualcomm has gotten product line up sorted for 2015 with 4G LTE and 64-bit being a new standard for smart phones. Earlier they had announced its Snapdragon 410 which aims to bring 4G LTE to the masses.

Head after the break for a video interview on the importance of 4G LTE and 64-bit mobile computing.
