Samsung Galaxy S5 is officially launched in Malaysia

The Samsung Galaxy S5 is officially launched in Malaysia with the retail price tag of RM2,399. It’s accompanying wearable, the Gear 2 is also made available here at RM899. Meanwhile the cool-looking Gear Fit sportsband with a curved AMOLED display is going for RM599. The device will be officially available for purchase on the 11th April like the rest of the global markets. If you plan to get one subsidised through a telco, it is available on contract through Celcom, DiGi and Maxis.

Pre-orders for the Galaxy S5 starts tomorrow, 28th March at 10AM on-wards at all participating Samsung Elite Partners and telcos. Colour options are limited for the first wave with Shimmery White and Charcoal Black being the only two colours available, the Electric Blue and Copper Gold versions will be coming a little later in the year.

To recap, the Galaxy S5 features a 5.1″ Full HD Super AMOLED display and is powered by a 2.5GHz Quad-Core Snapdragon 801 processor with 2GB of RAM. The unit which we are getting in Malaysia comes with 16GB of on-board storage and you can expand it further with microSD card up to 128GB. At the back, it features a 16MP camera that uses Samsung’s ISOCELL sensor and there’s also a heart rate sensor right underneath it. Also new is a finger print scanner that’s embedded on the home button at the front. Unlike the iPhone 5S’s Touch ID, the Galaxy S5 Finger Print scanner requires an additional step of waking the device first.

The battery capacity has been increased to 2,800mAh capacity. For moments when you’re down to the last few battery bars, the Ultra Power Saving Mode helps you stretch its usage by turning the display to monochrome and limiting your usage to essential functions only. Also new for Samsung’s flagship device is a water and dust resistance that’s rated at IP67.

Connectivity wise, it supports Cat 4 4G LTE with speeds up to 150Mbps and comes with 802.11ac WiFi. For faster downloads, the Galaxy S5 comes with a rather unique download booster. If you haven’t seen it yet, check out our extensive Galaxy S5 coverage below.
