More than 400,000 Pebble Smart Watches sold so far

Pebble which started off as a Kickstarter project has sold over 400,000 smart watches in the past year. It’s simple, affordable and boast a long battery life that lasts nearly a week on a single charge. What’s more amazing is they managed to do this while the competition packs so much more features such as a colour touch screen display, camera and even voice call capability.

Yes, the Pebble may be simple in comparison but its growing developer community has kept this smart watch ticking. To date, there are over 12,000 registered developers and over 1,000 apps available for the Pebble Smart Watch. Another reason for its fast adoption is its compatibility to run with smart phones running on either iOS and Android platforms.

After its success with its original Pebble, they had recently launched its high end Pebble Steel smart watch. The Pebble Steel is assembled using premium materials and costs US$100 more than the original. With a new Pebble AppStore, the usability of Pebble is much more refined than its early days. With big players cashing into the wearable trend, Pebble needs to improve itself to stay ahead of its competition. In an interview with CNN, its CEO Eric Migicovsky mentions that they are exploring new technologies to extend battery life as well as new flexible displays for future models. 2014 is definitely an exciting year for wearable devices especially with Google’s recent push with Android Wear.
