The Xiaomi Redmi smart phone gained quite a lot of attention in Singapore with its incredibly low S$169 (about RM443) price tag. Now there’s a newer Xiaomi Redmi Note, that offers even better hardware including a larger 5.5″ screen. Pre-bookings had started yesterday in China and more details have officially revealed.
Keeping true to its low price promise, the new Redmi Note starts from just 799 Chinese Yuan (about RM425) and packs a 5.5″ IPS display that does a decent 1280×720 pixels resolution. Powering the device is a 1.4GHz Octa-Core MT6592 processor from MediaTek with 1GB of RAM. If that’s not good enough, there’s also a high-spec version which runs on a faster 1.7GHz Octa-Core processor with 2GB of RAM at 999 Chinese Yuan (about RM530).
The camera has been improved over its earlier Redmi with a 13MP main camera and a front facing 5MP unit. For storage, there’s 8GB on-board but you could expand it more with microSD up to 32GB. Out of the box, it runs on Android 4.2 with Xiaomi’s MIUI interface and packs a generous 3,200mAh capacity battery. For now the Redmi Note is available for the Chinese market and comes with dual-SIM support for TD-SCDMA and GSM.
It is still too early to tell if Xiaomi is planning on bringing this internationally. If they do bring this here, we are not surprised if it gets sold out within minutes.
