Hands-on: Oppo Find 7 – High Spec model with 5.5-inch Quad HD Display and 2.5GHz Quad-Core Processor

The star of today’s announcement by Oppo is the Find 7 — a smartphone that trounces the competition when it comes to specifications.

The Find 7 boasts the most pixel-dense display of any smartphone with its 5.5-inch IPS 2k (2560×1440) display packing a whopping 538 pixels per inch. If that’s not impressive enough the display is strengthened with Gorilla Glass 3 as well. While the Find 7 isn’t a water-resistant device, the touch screen is sensitive enough to work with wet fingers and even gloves.

From our brief hands-on, the 2K display is incredibly sharp but honestly it’s quite hard to tell it apart from the a from a full HD display of the same size. There’s really no appreciable or discernible difference once you go beyond the 500ppi threshold but we’ll leave our final judgement for when we have a review unit to play with.

While it looks identical to its lower-spec twin, the higher-specced Find 7 offers more performance under the hood for just about RM300 extra. With the Find 7, you get a 2.5GHz Quad-Core Snapdragon 800 (MSM8974AC) with 3GB of RAM — identical to the Galaxy S5“>Galaxy S5. There’s also 32GB of on-board storage plus microSD expansion.

The removable battery is the same size as the Find 7a but with a higher 3,000mAh capacity compared to 2,800mAh in the Find 7a. An Oppo’s product rep tells us that the batteries are interchangeable which means its possible for you to take the higher capacity battery of the Find 7 and use it with the Find 7a. Speaking of batteries, both the Find 7 and Find 7a supports VOOC Rapid Charging technology allowing you to get 75% battery charge in just 30 minutes of charging when used with the supplied charging adapter.

In the camera department, the Find 7 uses a 13MP Sony IMX214 sensor with a 6-element f/2.0 lens. To capture picture in greater detail, the Find 7 is capable of producing a picture that’s equivalent to one taken using a 50MP camera using software and hardware oversampling which we will explain in detail on a separate post. For low light conditions, there’s a dual-LED flash.

The Find 7 is Oppo’s first 4G LTE device. For the international version, the device supports LTE Bands 1, 3, 7 and 20 which means that it will work the LTE networks in Malaysia.

The Find 7 is priced at 3,498 Chinese Yuan (about RM1,850) and it will be available just after the Find 7a goes on sale in Malaysia at the end-April. While both the Find 7 and Find 7a are almost identical in design an finish, Oppo has reserved a special faux carbon fibre finish for the higher-specced version.
