Nokia X now available in Malaysia

Nokia’s first ever Android-powered smartphone, the Nokia X, is now available in Malaysia.

Created by Nokia to fill the gap between their Asha and Lumia range, the base model Nokia X is undeniably low-end with a 4-inch 800×480 display, dual-SIM support, 1GHz dual-core processor, 512MB of RAM and 4GB of on-board storage that’s expandable with microSD. Photos and videos are handled by a basic 3MP camera with no HD video capability. Available in six colours – Bright Orange, Yellow, White, Green, Blue and Black — the Nokia X is now available in Malaysia for RM399 from Nokia stores and online retailers.

The Nokia X runs Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean but it has been heavily skinned to give a look and feel that of Windows Phone on Nokia’s Lumia devices. The Nokia X can run Android apps but you can’t download apps directly from Google Play. Instead you access a specific app store created by Nokia just for the Nokia X. Or you can access the many third party app stores or sideload apps into the device using APKs that are readily available online. The Nokia X also doesn’t support Google services like Gmail, Maps, Hangout and many others. For that you will have to use Nokia and Microsoft services like Here and Outlook.

The Nokia X left us unimpressed and if Nokia is looking to win market share in the low- to mid-tier market segment then it came to a gunfight with a knife. Chinese brands like Redmi have been upping their game bringing higher and higher specs to lower and lower price points read our hands-on and first impressions of the Nokia XL here to find out more.
