At today’s Jakarta event, Sony has also announced the arrival of its large screen Xperia T2 Ultra for our South East Asian market. It offers a rather larger 6″ HD display that does a rather decent 720p resolution. With its mid-tier internals, the Xperia T2 Ultra goes head-on with the Nokia Lumia 1320 which is also comes with a similar 6-incher 720p display.
Internally, it runs on a 1.4GHz Quad-Core Snapdragon 400 processor with 1GB of RAM and there’s 8GB of on-board storage that can be expanded with microSD slot. For imaging, there’s a 13MP camera with Exmor RS sensor and a front facing 1.1MP camera. Unlike the Xperia Z Ultra, the T2 Ultra does come with assisted LED flash. In terms of battery, the Xperia T2 Ultra is juiced up with a rather generous 3,000mAh capacity battery. Overall, it still rather slim at 7.65mm and weighs 172 grams.
In the hands, the Xperia T2 Ultra is slightly easier to hold than the Xperia Z Ultra but it isn’t as premium to touch as it lacks the cold aluminium steel frames around the device. The body is mainly plastic with a rather glossy back. It uses flush flaps covers for the microSD and micro SIM slot but this isn’t a waterproof device.
NFC and 4G LTE connectivity does come as standard and there will also be single-SIM and dual-SIM variants available. At time of writing, it runs on Android 4.3 Jelly Bean but we are expecting Sony to update this to Android 4.4 KitKat a little bit later. If you’re looking for a big screen smart phone with fast LTE connection on a budget, this could be a device worth considering. It will be coming to Malaysia sometime in April and we expect the pricing to be around the RM1,200-1,400 range.
