Sony Xperia Z2 tablet announced. The slimmest and lightest waterproof tablet just got better

Sony has taken its wafer thin Xperia tablets to the next level with the newly announced Xperia Z2 tablet. When they introduced the Xperia Tablet Z, it was the thinnest tablet that’s also waterproof at the same time. Now they have gone thinner as the Xperia Z2 tablet is only 6.4mm and weighs just 426 grams for WiFi and 439g for the 4G LTE version. As a result, Sony has finally regained its throne for the lightest full sized tablet away from the iPad Air which weighs 469 grams for the WiFi version.

Interestingly they have also changed the naming convention to Sony Xperia Z2 Tablet, which simplifies the relationship with its current Xperia Z2 flagship smart phone.

The front screen size remains unchanged from its predecessor with a 10.1″ Full HD Triluminos Display. Under the hood, the Xperia Z2 Tablet runs on a 2.3GHz Quad-Core Snapdragon 801 processor with 3GB of RAM, which is similar to the Xperia Z2 smart phone. For taking pictures, the tablet comes with a 8.1MP Exmor RS camera at the back and a 2.2MP camera at the front. Like the Xperia Z2, it also comes with Digital Noise Cancellation technology which claims to mute off 98% of ambient noise with its MDR-NC31EM heatset.

For those intending to do serious work while on the go, there’s also an optional Bluetooth Keyboard and Cover Stand that offers a laptop-like experience with an integrated keyboard.

The Xperia Z2 Tablet will be available globally from March onwards and it is likely to hit Malaysia soon after Sony’s Jakarta event that’s happening next week. It will be available in black and white colours.
