The Huawei Ascend P6 was dubbed as the world’s thinnest smart phone with an incredibly thin 6.2mm thickness. While it is a rather capable device with a quad-core 1.5GHz processor and a 4.7″ 720p HD display, it still lacks the fire power to go head on the current crop of high-end flagship devices. Earlier on, it was said that Huawei is working on an upgraded Ascend P6 model featuring a superior octa-core processor.
Now its replacement, the Ascend P6 S has finally appeared with subtle tweaks rather than a major upgrade. The only major difference is the processor which is bumped from 1.5GHz to 1.6GHz quad-core processor. The thickness has gone up a bit too at 6.5mm (0.3mm more than the P6) but surprisingly its battery remains unchanged with a similar 2,000mAh capacity. The rest of the specification remains untouched with the same 4.7″ 720p HD LCD, 2GB of RAM, 8MP main camera and a front facing 5MP shooter.
Currently the Ascend P6 S is released for China Unicom with 16GB on-board storage and dual-sim capability at 2688 Yuan which is about RM1,500. Connectivity wise, 4G LTE seems to be lacking on the P6 S but they could offer it for international models. As comparison, the current Ascend P6 with 8GB of storage was launched at RM1,399.
