If you don’t fancy the Nexus 5, here comes 2 new Google Play editions with the LG G Pad 8.3 tablet and the 6.44″ Sony Xperia Z Ultra. The 2 new models joins the current HTC One & Samsung Galaxy S4 Google Play editions that runs Pure Android experience with the latest 4.4 KitKat. Apart from having a more fluid experience without the usual UI skinning, another benefit of having a Google Play edition is getting quicker updates to the latest Android versions.
The WiFi only LG G Pad offers a Full HD 8.3″ display and is powered by a 1.7GHz Snapdragon 600 processor, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage. Meanwhile the Sony Xperia Z Ultra Google Play edition retains the same specs of a top notch 6.44″ Full HD display, 2.2GHz Snapdragon 800 processor with 2GB of RAM and it also comes with the same water and dust resistance capabilities. The Z Ultra model which they are offering for Google Play is the 4G LTE edition.
So if you’re looking for a “Nexus” device with expandable micro-SD slots, these two make great alternatives. The only downside is it isn’t offered on our Malaysian Google Play store but hopefully we will get to see some entrepreneuring grey importers bringing them in.
Head after the break for the official demo of the Xperia Z Ultra Google Edition from Sony.
