Nokia Enters New Territory with Its First Ever Tablet

Nokia has just announced the Lumia 2520, its first attempt in the tablet category that runs on Windows RT 8.1. In terms of design, the Lumia 2520 tablet follows the experience of its current colourful poly-carbonate Lumia smart phones and it comes with a choice of 4 striking colours – Red, Cyan, Black and White. While tablets are moving towards smaller sized 7″-8″ dimensions, Nokia went with a bigger 10.1″ IPS display that boasts a Full HD resolution of 1920×1080 with a claimed viewing angle of 180 degrees. The display also illuminates a rather bright 650 nits, making it rather usable in outdoor conditions.

In terms of processing power, you won’t be disappointed with its top of the line 2.2GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor and 2GB of RAM, similar to its current flagship Lumia 1520 smart phone. On-board it comes with 32GB of storage which can be expanded with additional 32GB via microSD.

For taking photos and videos, the Lumia 2520 comes with a 6.7MP camera mated with ZEISS optics, a first for tablets. It also comes with a microSIM slot that supports 4G LTE connectivity as well. At the sides, there’s a micro HDMI port and a wider micro USB 3.0 port that’s similar to the one found on the Galaxy Note 3.

Despite having a generous 8,000mAh battery, it still manages to maintain a respectably slim 8.9mm thickness and weighs 615 grams. As comparison, the current 4th gen iPad with Retina Display is 9.4mm thick and 652 grams heavy.

Will this be a game changer? As the first tablet for Nokia, the specs on paper looks promising but the Windows RT operating system has yet to prove itself as a compelling platform.
