Samsung’s new curved display smart phone leaked before launch

UPDATE: 5.7″ Samsung Galaxy Round officially revealed.

Curved or flexible display seems to be the next big thing for Korean makers LG & Samsung with both of them aiming to launch curved smart phone in these couple of months. @evleaks which is well known for revealing official press images of upcoming devices have posted a couple of pictures of Samsung’s upcoming smart phone with curved display. The upcoming device is purportedly called as the Samsung Galaxy Round.

From the looks of it, the upcoming curve device looks like a curled up Galaxy S4. It doesn’t look ergonomically designed for calls as compared to Nokia 8110. At the bottom, there’s a noticeable bigger port which indicates micro USB 3.0 that was first introduced on the Galaxy Note 3.

Announcing a smart phone curve or flexible display is certainly news worthy but in the end it all boils down to usability. Now these makers are merely churning out phones for the sake of showcasing their capabilities, simply to prove a point that they can. It is expected that these new displays are a notch down as the new curved Samsung device is said to be having a 4.7″ screen with 720p resolution as opposed to today’s Full HD display.

We’ve seen new technology that come and go like 3D stereoscopic displays in 2011 with the LG Optimus 3D and HTC EVO 3D. Is a curved smart phone a game changer? We’ll have to see what benefits it will bring over the standard flat display panels.
