Nokia Announces the Lumia 625. Comes with a Relatively Large Screen and Not Much Else

Update: The Lumia 625 is now available in Malaysia. Details here.

Looks like the leaked images and specs were spot on. The Lumia 625 is official and its calling card is the largest display ever put on a Nokia Windows Phone.

But is it enough to make you want one? We don’t think so.

With a 4.7-inch LCD display, the Lumia 625 is considered average in a market dominated by Android phones with large displays sporting 720p or full 1080p resolution. And the display isn’t particularly sharp either. Pushing out a lowly 201ppi with a 800×480 resolution, the Lumia 625 has one of the lowest pixel densities we’ve seen on a smartphone in recent months. On the up side, the display sports Gorilla Glass 2 and can be used even if you’re using gloves over your digits.

Powering the Lumia 625 is a dual-core 1.2GHz Snapdragon S4 processor with 512MB RAM and 8GB internal storage. Usable memory can be increased with a microSD card slot that takes cards up to 64GB and there’s also 7GB of cloud storage courtesy of Microsoft via SkyDrive. If you ask us, 7GB is sad considering you can get 25GB of cloud storage from HTC and Samsung. Other specs include LTE connectivity, a 5MP rear camera with 1080p video and a VGA front-facing camera. Powering the device is a 2,000mAh battery.

The Lumia 625 has an exchangeable rear shell and is available in orange, yellow, green, white and black but we’re not sure if all the colours will come to Malaysia. Official price for the Lumia 625 is 220 Euros, that puts in at just under RM1,000 at today’s exchange rate. No doubt this will bring some curious buyers into Nokia’s store but we’re not too sure if many can be convinced to part with their money. The device is expected to come to Malaysia before October.
