That thing in your pocket is now your biggest security risk. Smartphones and tablets are increasingly exposed to security threats not just in the physical manner (lost or stolen devices that have little or no security layer) but also in the software sense of the word.

And the threat varies greatly from unsolicited text messages that harvest personal details to compromised devices being able to send out text messages automatically resulting in excess charges, not to mention the multitude of malware and email phishing scams.

Realising this, Maxis has teamed up with one of the leading names in cybersecurity, Norton, to beef up the protection of your mobile device.

The Norton Mobile Security is an application for Maxis customers that’s designed to help protect mobile devices from digital threats and more. With Norton Mobile security you can remotely locate, lock and even wipe data from your lost or stolen device.

In fact, Norton Mobile Security offers a full suite data protection features including:

Anti-Phishing Web Protection – Protects and reports malicious sites that may contain malware. Through this feature, users are protected from malicious websites that offer quick access via the link or QR code.

Call & Text Blocker – Allows users to block specific people or phone numbers so that users are not disturbed by unwanted calls and SMS.

Lost Notice – In the event of a lost phone, the user may send a customised message to the person who located the device through this feature to have it returned.

Remote Lock – Users are able to lock the device remotely via the web or SMS to prevent others from accessing the data and information on the device.

Remote Locate – Pinpoints lost or stolen phones or tablets on a map to help users find their devices fast.

Remote Wipe – As an added security measure data and information in the device, both of which are stored in the internal memory or external memory, can be removed via SMS or the web.

Norton Mobile Security is available for Android devices and Maxis subscribers can subscribe to the service weekly for RM1/week or monthly for (RM3/month). As an introductory offer Maxis is offering a one month free trial.

To subscribe to Norton Mobile Security, all you need to do is dial *200# > choose option 3 > choose “more Maxis Secure > choose Norton Mobile Security.
