Galaxy S IV to Debut March 14

Update: It’s confirmed. Samsung have started issuing invites to international media for an Unpacked event in New York happening on March 14, 7pm (that’s March 15, 7am Malaysian time). There will also be a live stream for everyone to watch on the day.

The covers will come off the Galaxy S IV on March 14 in New York, Reuters said in a report citing a quote from Samsung Electronics’ mobile division chief JK Shin.

Last year, the Galaxy S III was launched in London but this year Shin said that Samsung has been “bombarded” with requests from U.S. mobile operators to launch the device in New York, right in Apple’s home turf. The last time that Samsung launched a device in the United States was three years ago when it launched the Galaxy S.

In Malaysia, Samsung is enjoying a comfortable position in the smartphone market and its a safe bet to expect the Malaysian operations to maintain if not increase its position over competitors with even more aggressive marketing spend and a fast launch-to-availability turnaround time. It’s not impossible for Samsung to make the Galaxy S IV available in Malaysia as early as April.

The Galaxy S IV will be one of the most anticipated Android smartphones this year. The device is expected to feature a developed in house 8-core processor, a full HD 1080p ultra-tough display and a better camera with a host of smart features amongst other enhancements.

Beyond this, we are expecting Samsung to improve on the build quality of previous Galaxy S smartphones with better materials and also an updated design language to compete with ultra-sexy Androids like the Sony Xperia Z and the all-new HTC One.
