Watch: Gorilla Glass 3 Withstands Force that Could Dent Aluminium

The latest member of the Gorilla Glass family has just been demoed at CES 2013. Corning Inc. boasts that Gorilla Glass 3 is 40% more scratch resistant than the previous version of its glass product, and that now, even fewer scratches that do occur will be visible to the naked eye.

Corning began its research into chemically strengthened glass in the 1960s, and the world first saw its Gorilla Glass product line used on the iPhone in 2007. Last year, Gorilla Glass 2 was launched, being 20% thinner than the original Gorilla Glass, but with the same strength and scratch resistance. It’s amazing to see how far the technology has progressed from its humble beginnings.

Check out this video demonstrating just how strong the the new version of Gorilla Glass is. The video shows a promoter using a 130 gram steel ball to dent aluminium, and break a competitor’s glass product but the Gorilla Glass 3 remained intact withstanding a direct load of 100lbs with ease.

See for yourself after the jump.
