Apart from the Samsung Galaxy Note II, rumour has it that Samsung might be introducing a Galaxy Camera this coming IFA 2012. The camera is said to feature a 16MP sensor, 10X Zoom and it runs on Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. This might be true considering Samsung has trademarked the name “Samsung Galaxy Camera” early this year.
The image above is not the actual device but a mock up rendition by GSMArena. According to their reliable source, the Galaxy Camera is described to look like a Galaxy S III from the back with no physical buttons and it is about twice as thick. It is also said to carry a pop-up Xenon Flash and available in both WiFi and 3G and WiFi variant, though it is likely it won’t be supporting calls/SMS function. At the moment, there’s no mention of the screen size and other hardware details such as processor and RAM.
A few days ago, Nikon has introduced its Coolpix S800C that also comes with Android OS, a 16MP sensor and 10X Optical zoom. We’ll find out if this is true in the coming few days at IFA 2012 that’s happening in Berlin.
Having a smart phone OS on a camera is definitely interesting considering the amount of photo based social apps available out there. However it is yet to be seen if such concept will take off big time.
