We’re blogging live from Sony’s launch of 6 new Xperia phones that consists of Sony Xperia ion, Sony Xperia acro S, Sony Xperia go, Sony Xperia miro, Sony Xperia tipo & Sony Xperia neo L . The 6 are announced for this region of Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia but unfortunately the rugged and sleek Sony Xperia acro S will not be coming here.
Let’s talk a little bit of the new devices. Starting with the Sony Xperia ion which was first announced as an LTE device early this year and now it is available in HSPA version for the rest of the world. In terms of specs, it features Sony Xperia S like specifications with dual core 1.5GHz processor but comes with a larger 4.6″ HD Reality Display. You’ll also get a Fast Capture 12.1 MP camera that lets you take a photo from sleep to snap in less than 2 seconds.
Next is the Sony Xperia neo L which is a 4″ entry-mid level Ice Cream Sandwich device running on single core 1GHz processor. Initially launched for the Chinese market, this is Sony’s first Android 4.0 device and in terms of design, it looks like a Sony Xperia Play without the slide out gamepad console.
The next 2 devices are the recently announced Xperia tipo and miro which are basically entry level devices. Both are running on a single core 800MHz processor and boast a longer battery life of more than 24 hours of standard usage, thanks to its 1,500mAh battery which is generous for this class. The miro features a unique illumination light. In terms of display sizes, the miro comes with a 3.5″ display while the tipo has a smaller 3.2″ with both supporting HVGA resolution of 480×320. The Xperia tipo comes with a dual-sim version as well, which is a first for Sony.
The final 2 models are the rugged and water resistant models of Sony Xperia go and Sony Xperia acro S. The Xperia go runs on Sony’s Novathor dual-core 1GHz processor with 512MB of RAM and 8GB of storage. Being a successor of the Xperia active, it also features the same rugged IP67 rating and the 3.5″ HVGA touch screen features wet finger tracking.
The Xperia acro S features similar Xperia S specs including the same 4.3″ TFT display with 12.1MP camera. In terms of juice, the acro S has a bigger battery at 1,910mAh. In terms of water and dust resistance, the acro S is rated at IP55/IP57.Unfortunately we won’t be seeing this device officially on our shores soon. UPDATE: Ola Lilja Molen, Head of SEA Markets for Sony Mobile confirms that the Xperia acro S will be coming to Malaysia. Date TBD.
In terms of availability, the 6 devices are slated to be released in Singapore, Indonesia and Malaysia sometime Q3 2012.
