We’ve seen plenty of smart phones breaking the 1GHz barrier recently and now we have something to look forward to in 2012. Samsung has revealed its new Exynos 5250 SoC which runs on dual-core 2GHz processors based on ARM Cortex-A15 core.
Going into the performance figures, the new Exynos does 14 billion instructions per second at 2GHz which is said to be double of today’s dual-core 1.5GHz Cortex A9 processor. The Cortex A15 is the most advanced ARM processor to date. In terms of graphics, the application processor is able to push a mammoth WQXGA display of 2560×1600. For energy efficiency, there’s a panel self-refresh technology (PSR) which consumes less power when viewing static image/text documents.
Other new features mentioned include an embedded image signal processor that’s capable of shooting 8MP pictures in 30FPS and 1080p HD video recording at 60FPS.
The Exynos 5250 is meant to cater for high-tablets and it is expected to go mass production sometime in Q2 2012. Looks like the new tablets coming out next year would be exciting to watch.
