ASUS Transformer Prime gets early hands-on

A Brazilian tech site ZTOP was fortunate enough to get an early hands-on with the ASUS Transformer Prime. Not only he has taken loads of shots the device, there are also size comparisons photos with an iPhone 4, Motorola RAZR and the original Transformer.

At first glance, the Transformer Prime tablet is indeed thinner with a similar iPad 2 side treatment. Even the front glass is closer towards with edge. While the brush metal finish looks premium, the author reported that it’s a magnet for fingerprints which can be seen in one of his photos. An interesting discovery is the use of ASUS SonicMaster technology which gives better audio with built-in sub-woofer on the keyword dock where the vent is visible.

Despite running on Android 3.2 Honeycomb, there are couple of new features on the software. When viewing all running apps, there’s a X button next to it which lets you kill task immediately. The notification bar is refreshed as well with one touch toggle switches for WiFi, Bluetooth and airplane mode. At time of writing, the Prime is reported to be buggy which is normal for a pre-release engineering model. The Transformer Prime was officially revealed few days ago with a US$499 price tag for its 32GB version. Availability is slated for December.
