Samsung Germany has just announced the Samsung Galaxy Xcover — an IP67-rated Android phone that is dirt and dust resistant and can survive a 30 minute dunk in water a metre deep. The rugged Galaxy Xcover runs Android 2.3 and features a 3.65-inch display with tempered, scratch resistance glass as well as a 3.2-megapixel camera and 7.2Mbps HSDPA connectivity. Not much else has been revealed about the device but you can expect a 1GHz-ish processor with running the show.
Availability is slated for October 2011 in Germany. No word on whether the Galaxy Xcover will be coming to Malaysia but considering that none of the previous Samsung Xcover phones made it here (yes, there were a range of Xcover branded rugged phones from Samsung prior to this one), we don’t think you should hold your breath for this one — which is sad because among the rugged Android phones we’ve seen, this one is the best looking (and possibly thinnest).
