Alright everybody Samsung has just dropped a bomb. The local launch of the Galaxy Tab 10.1 will be delayed for another couple of weeks. Earlier information revealed that the Galaxy Tab 10.1 was slated to be launched in the late July or early August time frame but it looks like a the launch will be delayed to late August or maybe even early September.
This strikes us a bit odd as late August/early September is around the Hari Raya period and typically, marketing for non-relevant products — in this case, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 — are put on hold due to the overwhelming noise made by marketeers selling products related to the festivities.
The Galaxy Tab 10.1 is a very important product for Samsung Malaysia and they would want to get it absolutely right with the launch but this delay could go both ways. It could be a good thing for Samsung or it could come around and bite them on their behinds. How will it turn out? Well, we’ll have to see what they got up their sleeves in terms of the marketing campaign for the product.
In addition to this, it was unintentionally revealed that the the Galaxy Tab 8.9 will be coming to Malaysia about a month after the 10-inch version. Could this delay signal a shift in Samsung’s go-to-market strategy? Are they looking to launch both devices at the same time?
What about Celcom? Will the telco still get operator exclusivity at launch or will Samsung launch the device with more than one operator?
So many questions, not much information. The waiting game goes on. What is certain however is for those of you who have been waiting for months for the Galaxy Tab 10.1 to come to Malaysia — you’ll have to wait some more.
