RUMOUR: A5 chip overheating issues cause delay of new iPhone

Apple fans are marking September as a month to celebrate as they anticipate the arrival of a new iPhone. But this bit of info from an un-sourced report from Sohu.com, a Chinese website, could mean a completely revamped iPhone is unlikely come September.

The website claims that overheating issues with the A5 processor is causing delays of a new iPhone version that will include the dual-core chip.

Snippet from the Sohu.com via Google Translate:

Due to the emergence of Apples current A5 processor overheating problem, so Apple will not soon be launching a new generation of the iPhone 5 smartphones, but Apple will launch this fall is still an iPhone 4, enhanced mobile products or the name iPhone 4S, this iPhone 4S is mainly based on the iPhone 4 on minor upgrades and no significant upgrade.

This comes to a surprise to us as it is a generally accepted assumption that the dual-core A5 chip, that is currently powering the iPad 2, will make it into the next immediate iteration of the iPhone. In fact, we strongly believe that the new iPhone will feature the A5 chip and an 8MP camera and look very similar to the current iPhone.

But if this rumour is true than the new iPhone will be at a disadvantage competing against the ever increasing number of dual-core Androids thats available in the market. A single core iPhone is simply not going to cut it at this stage of the game. Especially when devices like the epic Sony Ericsson Xperia Duo is rumoured to feature a 1.4GHz dual-core processor and 1.5GB of RAM.
