Premium phones, we’re not sure what is the point but there sure is a market for em.
Introducing the latest in the long yet limited line of premium phones for the jet-setters that has it all. The Nokia Oro is an 18-carat scratch resistant gold plated Symbian Anna powered device that comes complete with a home button made out of sapphire crystal and slapped with hand-wrapped leather skinned from one of Scotland’s finest Caledonian herds.
The hardware specs of the Oro while not out of this world (like its hide), can still be considered contemporary with HSDPA 3G with Bluetooth and WiFi connectivity. There’s a 3.5-inch AMOLED display, an 8-megapixel camera with 720p video recording.
Nokia tells us that the Oro is a device “that’s clearly intended for someone who doesn’t want their mobile device to look the same as other people’s.”
Nokia’s General Manager for Russia, Gabriel Speratti, says that “in some areas, possession of such premium products is the passport to being taken seriously.”
Really now?
There are two versions for you to choose from — one in black and gold, the other in a lighter white gold and caramel leather hue. And if you’re wondering, “Oro” means gold in Italian. Asking price for one of this luxurious phone is EU800 or about RM3,450 at today’s exchange rates.
The Nokia Oro will start selling in selected countries across the Europe, Eastern Europe, China and the Middle East in Q3 2011. So if you want one you best be taking your private jet to any one of this countries, which really shouldn’t be an issue for the Oro’s intended target audience.
We’d rather look poor and get a decent notebook for that money.
Head on over to after the jump for more pictures and an a promo video for the Nokia Oro.
