This is all unconfirmed obviously but we have it on good authority that the Samsung Galaxy S II — yes, the dual-core next-generation Android — is very likely to make its Malaysian debut in May. No prizes for guessing which telco is going to take exclusivity for this device. We’re thinking that it will most probably be Maxis.
Adding more weight this is the earlier confirmation from Gregory Lee, the CEO of Samsung Asia that the Galaxy S II is coming to Singapore in April. We don’t have the exact dates at the moment but May is looking positively firm for the Galaxy S II to hit Malaysia.
In the meantime, if you want to get in on some dual-core Android action sooner, Celcom and LG will be showcasing the the LG Optimus 2X at the Sepang International Circuit in conjunction with the F1 weekend happening this April 8 – 10.
No word on whether there will be units for sale at the showcase or when the LG Optimus 2X will be coming to Malaysia but we would think our guess wont be far off if we say that the LG super phone will be launched close to when Samsung’s Galaxy S II launch.
Also, its really weird for LG to have a demo booth all the way in Sepang when they can very easily generate more interest and even pre-bookings if they erect a booth at Mid Valley or KLCC, but what do we know. What we also don’t know is whether you will need to purchase an F1 ticket if you want to catch the showcase. Let’s hope you don’t have to. The journey all the way there is daunting enough already.
In any case, for those of you who are holding out your smart phone purchase to wait and see what the dual-core Androids have to offer, it looks like May could be your month.
