Updates on the U Mobile BlackBerry sale

UPDATE : Just before 12:00AM, there’s already a queue of 20+ people at Berjaya Times Square for the U Mobile BlackBerry Sale. Pic below after the jump.

UPDATE 2 :: U Mobile replied to our tweet on whether there will be any bundled plans for BlackBerry devices and whether the BlackBerry Torch will be offered. Answer is no for now.

UPDATE 3:: As there’s definitely more than 20 people standing in line at the Boulevard of Berjaya Times Square right now, your chances of getting a Bold 9780 for RM3 is pretty much zilch but U Mobile says you should still drop by and take a look at what they have to offer tomorrow as there will be a lucky draw where the winner gets to purchase a BlackBerry for RM3. U Mobile didn’t however say which BB specifically.

U Mobile will be launching its BlackBerry plans tomorrow and along with it the operator will be offering the BlackBerry Bold 9780 and the BlackBerry Curve 9300 at crazy prizes.

U Mobile had earlier put out a teaser about its BlackBerry sale but not much details on the service plans were revealed. Building up to the launch tomorrow however, the U Mobile Twitter account have been providing some clues of what you can expect at the sale.

We’ve scanned through U Mobile’s Twitter timeline and have some interesting information about tomorrow’s launch to share with you.

Devices
This is pretty much a known thing. There will be two BlackBerry devices on sale tomorrow: the BlackBerry Bold 9780 and the BlackBerry Curve 9300. The quantities are as follows.

Total BlackBerry units on sale: 110 units (10 units BlackBerry Bold 9780 and 100 BlackBerry Curve 9300)
Price breakdown on devices:

  • BlackBerry Bold 9780 X 10 units at RM3
  • BlackBerry Curve 9300 x 50 units at RM33
  • BlackBerry Curve 9300 x 50 units at RM333

Each device will have 18 months warranty from Brightstar.

The question now is, will U Mobile also introduce a bundling package that offers subsdised pricing for the BlackBerry devices? Also will U Mobile be offering the BlackBerry Torch. Details on this are not yet available and our tweet to U Mobile has yet to be answered so we can’t really say for sure. But from what we know, we don’t think that there will be bundling plans for BlackBerry devices from U Mobile. On whether U Mobile will be offering the BlackBerry Torch, it’s a possibility in the future but not at their launch tomorrow.

Plans and cost

There are three U Mobile BIS plans to choose from:

  • RM1.50/day
  • RM10/week
  • RM40/month

These plans are applicable to both prepaid and post-paid subscribers. The BIS usage is “unlimited” which allows you to do almost everything online except for streaming videos on sites like YouTube, Vimeo etc and tethering, so you can’t use your BB as a modem.

For those purchasing the BlackBerry devices at the sale price, you will have to opt for the RM40/month BIS plan and sign up for a 12-month contract. You don’t have to subscriber for a separate voice plan as the RM40/month comes with voice.

So your total upfront cost will be: BlackBerry price (either RM3, RM33 or RM333) + up front payment of RM250.

The advanced payment will be credited back into your account.

Early termination
For early termination, you will be charged on total number of remaining days before contract ends. This is what we’ve gathered from the FAQ on U Mobile’s website but how much the penalty is per day is not mentioned.

Sale location

If you’re planning to head down to Berjaya Times Square, the sale are is at the Boulevard — the main entrance outside Papa John’s and Starbucks. UPDATE: U Mobile has twitpic the location and there’s already about 20+ people in line. Looks like the RM3 BlackBerry Bold offer is already out for the rest of us.

That’s what we’ve gathered so far. Some of the info may require updating as we find out more about the BlackBerry plans from U Mobile. Stay tuned.
