Sharp announces Galapagos Android phones with 3D for Japan

Sharp has announced 2 Android device for Japan’s Softbank telco that comes with 3D display. The 3D display used here doesn’t require any 3D glasses to operate which is somehow similar to the ones used on Nintendo 3DS.

The 2 devices are Galapagos 003SH and Galapagos 005SH which comes with a slide out QWERTY keyboard. Both devices are running Android 2.2 Froyo and comes with a 3.8″ display capable of doing 3D.

To make use of that 3D display, they will be 3D games and 3D movies being released specially for the device. Since this is a niche device, its 3D usefulness will depend on future 3D content from various publishers in order to stay up to date. Pricing and availability are not available yet but we don’t expect this to appear in Malaysia anytime soon.
