Here’s a neat project by a father and son team. They got an iPhone 4, encased in a custom heat and shock absorbing enclosure attached to a weather balloon. Then they launch it straight up into space which went up as high as 100,000 feet.
Surprisingly they managed to retrieve back the phone which landed 30 miles away from its launch site with assistance from its transmitted GPS coordinates. All these were planned out in detail including picking the right site and weather considerations.
