Dell Streak launches in India sells for a ridiculously high price

Dell’s 5in Android tablet made it’s debut in India yesterday, and while that may not be anything out of the ordinary, it’s retail selling price might make you go WTF.

The Streak, still running Android 1.6, retails for Rs. 34,990 which is about RM2,436 which is a little more than a 16GB iPhone 4 but waaay too much for a 5in Android 1.6 tablet. Here’s another way to look at it, a 16GB iPad 3G in Singapore sells for SG$928 or about RM2,191.

We’re not sure why the Streak is priced so high in India, in the US the devices retails for US$549.99 or roughly RM1,703 and that’s a reasonable price for something like the Streak.

Dell Malaysia has told us that the Streak will only be coming next year, let’s hope the pricing is closer to the what people in the US are paying for it rather than what people in India are.
