Samsung Malaysia has finally brought in its latest Gear accessories to complement its current Galaxy flagship smartphones. This includes the long awaited Gear Fit2 smart fitness watch and its Gear IconX wireless earbuds.
Gear Fit2
The Gear Fit2 is the successor of its previous Gear Fit smart watch. Similar to the original, it gets a curved AMOLED display at 1.5″ (Gear Fit: 1.84″) and it has a host of fitness tacking features including a heart rate sensor and GPS.
The Gear Fit2 runs on Samsung’s own Tizen OS and it has 512MB RAM along with 4GB of storage. You can store your music on board the Gear Fit2, allowing you to go for a jog while leaving your phone at home. In terms of connectivity, it supports WiFi and Bluetooth 4.2 while charging is done with a wireless dock.
Keeping the lights on is a 200mAh battery which is rated to last 3-5 days on a single charge. Like its new flagship smartphones, it also gets IP68 dust and water resistance as well. The Samsung Gear Fit2 is priced at RM699 and it is available in Blue, Dark Grey and Pink colours.
Gear IconX
The Gear IconX is Samsung’s wireless earbuds that do more than just playing music. It also acts as a fitness tracker that monitors distance, speed, heart rate and calories burned. On board, it also gets 4GB of storage to store your music. Meanwhile, a full charge of its 47mAh battery is rated to last up to 3.8 hours of standalone music playback (non-bluetooth streaming).
Controls for the Gear IconX is pretty basic as a standalone device. To navigate, you can tap or swipe at the sides and for full control over your music, you can pair this with a Gear Fit2 smartwatch.
To ensure that the Gear IconX fits in any ear, it comes with interchangeable ear tips and wingtips which you can mix and match. To charge the device, it gets its own charging dock case that has a built-in 315mAh battery. The Gear IconX is priced at RM699 and it is available in Blue, Dark Grey and White colours.
New Gear VR
When the Galaxy Note7 was announced earlier this month, Samsung had also introduced its new Gear VR that supports both USB Type-C and micro-USB connectors. The new Gear VR headset has better optics with a wider 101° Field of View lens and it gets an extra home button next to its directional touch pad.
Since it has a interchangable connector, it also supports older Galaxy flagships including the Galaxy S6/S6 edge/S6 edge+/Note5/S7/S7 edge/Note7. Available in black, the new Gear VR is priced at RM399.
Gear 360
The Samsung Gear 360 is an interesting 360 VR content creation tool. Shaped like a golf ball, it has 2 fisheye lenses with 15MP sensors on both sides. The Gear 360 is capable of recording high-resolution 3840×1920 360-degree video at 30 frames per second and 30MP still images. Included is a compact 3 legged tripod and you can replace this with any accessory that uses the standard tripod mount. It’s also water resistant with IP53 rating.
All recordings are saved onto a microSD card (supports up to 200GB) and keeping the lights on is a 1,350mAh battery. It’s compatible with selected models which include the Galaxy S6/S6 edge/S6 edge+/Note5/S7/S7 edge/Note7. The Gear 360 is officially priced at RM1,299 in Malaysia.
