Samsung is still producing flip phones as it were, with the successor to the Samsung G9098 hitting China’s TENAA very recently.
But this is no clam shell to scoff at, it has a 1.8GHz hexa-core Snapdragon 808 under the hood, 2GB RAM and 16GB expandable memory up to 128GB.
The Samsung SM-G9198, as it is called will be home to two 3.91 inch AMOLED screens with a resolution of 1280 x 768 and will be relatively heavy, weighing in at 191 grams. The SM-G9198 measures in at 119.7x 66.6 x 16.7 mm when closed so expect it to be pretty thick . The device will be booting Android 5.1.1 Lollipop out of the box and will have a 16 megapixel main snapper with a 5 megapixel front shooter.
The flip phone is also going to have a heart rate sensor and 4G LTE connectivity so you essentially have here a phone that is practically a flagship in a clamshell form.
There is no word on a launch date but we aren’t likely to see this phone outside of China, but its sort of nice to see that high end flip phones haven’t gone extinct entirely.
