Sony has officially announced its newest flagship Xperia Z1 which boasts an even better smart phone with the best of Sony. Just like the earlier leaked press release had confirmed, the Xperia Z1 boasts its best display, build materials, water resistence and now packed with probably the best camera on an Android smart phone.
First up, the Xperia Z1 design retains the same signature omni-balance designed which was first seen on the Sony Xperia Z but they have went further with the use of a single piece aluminium frame surrounded by tempered glass on both sides. It maintains a pocketable 5″ Full HD display which is of Sony’s Triluminos variety which is similar to the 6.44″ Sony Xperia Z Ultra.
Underneath, it runs on the latest 2.2GHz Snapdragon 800 processor with 2GB of RAM and comes bundled with 16GB of storage. There’s also a microSD slot which allows you to expand storage up to 64GB. Since this is a flagship device, Sony is much generous this time around and had packed a massive 3,000mAh battery in a rather thin 8.5mm profile. Overall the device weighs a rather hefty 170 grams.
The biggest highlight of all is its camera which has been long anticipated since the codename “Honami” went out. The Xperia Z1 comes with a large 1/2.3″ Exmor RS sensor that pushes 20.7MP and it is mated with Sony’s very own G Lens. It offers a 27mm wide angle, f/2.0 aperture and comes with a dedicated BIONZ image processor. One of its unique feature is Timeshift burst that shoots 61 images in 2 seconds and lets you pick the best moment to share. With special moments meant to be shared in real time, Sony also introduces a new feature called “Social Live” which lets you live stream videos from the device to Facebook. Over at the front, it comes with a 2MP camera that supports Full 1080p HD video recording as well.
Just like the Xperia Z Ultra, the Xperia Z1 comes with water and dust resistance rating of IP55/58. This allows the device to be submerged under 1.5 metres of water for 30 minutes. Taking photos under water is made practical as well with a dedicated camera button.
Compared to its former flagship Xperia Z, the Z1 with its uprated hardware is overall a slightly bigger device. The original Z measures 139mm (height) x 71mm (width) x 7.9mm (thick) with 146 grams, while the Z1 measures 144mm (height) x 74mm (width) x 8.5mm (thick) with a notable 170 grams.
The Xperia Z1 will be available in 3 colours – black, white & purple and it also supports 4G LTE connectivity.
