Xiaomi has just revamped its entry-level smartphone lineup with its new affordable Redmi 4 series. This replaces the previous Redmi 3 which was introduced earlier this year. The new models were announced just in time for its biggest singles day sale that’s happening on 11 November.

Redmi 4

The Redmi 4 still retains the same old recipe with a 5″ display encased in a metal body. The standard model pushes a 720p resolution display and it runs on an Octa-Core Snapdragon 430 processor with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage which is quite similar to our current Redmi 3S. Meanwhile, the higher-spec variant gets an overwhelming boost with a higher tier 14nm Octa-Core Snapdragon 625 processor with 3GB RAM and 32GB of storage.

The screen on the higher variant gets a bump too with a 5″ Full HD display. Both models support dual-SIM (Micro+nano) and you can expand your storage via microSD up to 128GB.

For taking pictures, it gets a 13MP f/2.2 main camera with PDAF and dual-LED flash while the front gets a 5MP f/2.2 shooter. Underneath the main camera is a fingerprint sensor which unlocks at a single tap.

Keeping the lights on is a non-removable 4,100mAh battery that still charges via microUSB on a 5V/2A charger. In terms of price, the Redmi 4 is priced at 699CNY (about RM434) for the standard version and 899CNY (about RM559) for the high-spec model. Both versions are available in Gold, Grey and Silver.

Redmi 4A

Looking for something cheaper? The Redmi 4A is a lower cost alternative that’s priced at 499CNY (about RM310). It gets a similar 5″ HD 720p display but under the hood, it runs on a slightly lower Quad-Core Snapdragon 425 processor with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of expandable storage.

For cameras, it has a 13MP f/2.2 + 5MP f/2.2 combo and powering the Redmi 4A is a smaller 3,120mAh battery. In terms of colours, it will be available in either Gold and Rose Gold options. As usual, there’s no indicaition from Xiaomi if this will be sold outside of China, but you probably can get from a grey importer in Malaysia soon. For now, the cheapest Xiaomi smartphone you can get is the Redmi 3S which is on sale for RM599 (2GB RAM + 16GB storage) and RM699 (3GB RAM + 32GB storage).
